As a charity race, we certainly hope to make money for Good Samaritan but the race team also worked hard to make sure that the race was a quality event in every area (from swag, to course, to post race food, to t-shirts, to door prizes and to awards). Regarding the awards themselves, many of the organizers are runners and racers themselves. They had a different opinion on the award situation and decided to go with a more quality award for the six overall race winners ($100 plus value from our friends at "Life is Good") as well as one quality award for each age group (the ornament). This money is for a great cause, but, you have to budget for t-shirts (which you did) and awards "3-deep" in each category.
